Running costs: our PT PRO CO2 snow machine requires only connection to liquid CO2 either in cylinders, cylinder batteries or larger low pressure tanks. Using dry ice blasting means you have to consider the evaporation which is app. 10 % pr. 24 hours. The older the dry ice becomes the more you need to use. Loss of cleaning performance can be up to 15 % after 1 day of production.
The PT 25 pellet machine is designed for running on low pellet consumption and air supply. In many cases you can use the plant air so no need for mobile compressor.
The COMBI combines the features of CO2 snow and pellets. You can add pellets into the snow and thereby minimize the consumption of pellets.
Air supply: many of the DIB machines in the market require min. 3 m3/pr. min. or more in order to perform. PolarTech´s equipment will operate as low as 0,6 m3/min. and still perform cleaning operations.
By adding an air tank to existing compressor you can in many cases improve the air supply.
Equipment investment: some suppliers of DIB equipment requires investment up to twice the amount of PolarTech´s technology for equipment which we can match the performance. Spare parts are up to 300 % more expensive and long delivery schedules. PolarTech carries all spare parts in stock and will ship same day if orders received before 14.00 local time.
Handling: equipment of suppliers of DIB machines can weigh up to 120 kg and are very difficult to maneuver. Our larger machines are still low in weight and designed for easy handling.
Logistic: using DIB means it has to be a planned operation unless you own your own pelletizer. Liquid CO2 can be requested locally on a short notice should you run out.
Reduced production downtime: using snow blasting means you can often clean production equipment during operation. This means no dismantling or cooling down necessary and subsequently re-assembly. Production downtime can be radically reduced and therefor the economic effect can be considerable.
Reduced pay roll costs: implementing snow blasting will reduce cleaning and maintenance costs to a fraction of existing levels. This is due to the higher speed and more effective cleaning using snow blasting compared to traditional methods.
Reduced wear and tear: snow blasting is completely non-abrasive and therefore not subject to same effect from sanding, scraping and other abrasive methods.
Less waste disposal costs: disposal costs of hazardous material like chemicals and solvents are reduced or can even be eliminated. The dry ice snow vaporizes on impact on surfaces and leaving only the dislodged coating to be removed from the floor.
Other benefits using snow blasting
Environment: Dry ice blasting is non-toxic and in many cases we minimize or completely eliminate the use of chemicals and solvents. Only minimal amount of waste is produced which normally does not require special costly disposal. The dry ice used for cleaning is a recycled product which is being put into good use. It is not contributing to the green house effect.
Surface finish: using snow blasting means a completely dry process, no residues are left on the surface. Up to 3,5 times better adhesion has been achieved compared to traditional ways of surface treatment with solvents and rejects has been reduced dramatically. Condensation may occur on thin plated metal components but this can be solved by reheating the blasting air (part of PT equipment options).
Impact on material: Dry ice blasting can be very gentle as well as aggressive. The same machine will perform a large variety of cleaning tasks by changing the settings. Even electronic components, soft metals, textiles etc. can be cleaned with no damage. Hot surfaces like cleaning moulds in rubber or plastic industry is not causing any wear and tear on the surface.
Additional applications: besides from cleaning various surfaces/equipment, snow blasting can be used for pretreatment of surfaces before painting, coating or bonding processes. Especially in the plastic industry it can be used for de-burring or de-coating.
Automatic solutions: snow blasting is a highly potential application which can be implemented in existing productions or be set up as an independent operation. The operation can be 24/7.
Cleaning technology of the future
Cleaning with dry ice has been used for several years. More commonly used are dry ice in pellet form or blocks using a shaving technology. Both technologies are subject to high investment costs and high running costs. These factors have so far been the obstacles for establishing themselves as a general cleaning process in the industries.
